Meiotic Silencing in Dothideomycetous Bipolaris maydis

چکیده
The filamentous ascomycete Bipolaris maydis is a plant pathogen that causes corn leaf blight and has been used in cytological studies of sexual reproduction. In this fungus, when null mutants each septin are crossed with the wild-type strain, all ascospores derived from same asci show abnormal morphology. phenomenon was remarkably similar to event known as “ascus dominance” Neurospora crassa , which be caused by MSUD (meiotic silencing unpaired DNA). However, it not clear whether B. possesses functional MSUD. object study elucidate fungus carries system ascus dominance crosses strain. results homozygous heterozygous crossing tests mutants, having insertional CDC10 -septin gene sequence into genome, suggested triggered DNA N. . To investigate mechanism an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase, one essential factors MSUD, identified disrupted (? rdr1 ) When ? strain mutant septins, did occur crosses. These suggest gene, genes were affected silencing. date, although found only Fusarium graminearum classified Sordariomycetes, showed also Dothideomycete. possibility posttranscriptional regulation extensively conserved among ascomycetes.

Initiation of meiotic recombination in Ustilago maydis.
A central feature of meiosis is the pairing and recombination of homologous chromosomes. Ustilago maydis, a biotrophic fungus that parasitizes maize, has long been utilized as an experimental system for studying recombination, but it has not been clear when in the life cycle meiotic recombination initiates. U. maydis forms dormant diploid teliospores as the end product of the infection process....
متن کاملMeiotic Silencing by Unpaired DNA
The silencing of gene expression by segments of DNA present in excess of the normal number is called cosuppression in plants and quelling in fungi. We describe a related process, meiotic silencing by unpaired DNA (MSUD). DNA unpaired in meiosis causes silencing of all DNA homologous to it, including genes that are themselves paired. A semidominant Neurospora mutant, Sad-1, fails to perform MSUD...
متن کاملProteomic Analysis of the Relationship between Metabolism and Nonhost Resistance in Soybean Exposed to Bipolaris maydis
Nonhost resistance (NHR) pertains to the most common form of plant resistance against pathogenic microorganisms of other species. Bipolaris maydis is a non-adapted pathogen affecting soybeans, particularly of maize/soybean intercropping systems. However, no experimental evidence has described the immune response of soybeans against B. maydis. To elucidate the molecular mechanism underlying NHR ...

maximise lifetime reproduction. The aim of the current study is to determine the patterns of gene expression associated with longevity and reproduction in fruit fly. The Drosophila are fed varying ratios of a protein/carbohydrate diet, whole fly RNA is extracted and gene expression is assayed via Affymetrix microarrays, and differentially expressed genes are verified with qRT-PCR. Once candidat...
